Jury Finds Supermodel and Manager Liable for $1 Million, Announces Lanza Law Firm, PC
Houston, Texas, November 2, 2016. On October 31, 2016, a Los Angeles jury found international supermodel Marisa Miller and her management company liable to pay $1 million in C.A. 2:15-cv-04335; Segler Holdings, LLC vs. Marisa Miller and Cartel Management, Inc., in the United States District Court for the Central District of California, Western Division. In a unanimous verdict, the jury found that both Miller and Cartel Management breached their contracts to provide promotional services for Segler Holdings, LLC.
Nick Lanza and Stew Schmella of Lanza Law Firm, PC and Adam Soibelman and Robin McConnell of R2 Law Group, LLP filed the lawsuit for Segler Holdings, alleging Miller and Cartel failed to promote sunless tanning products and salons operated by Segler Holdings under the brand name Glissin. Lanza, Schmella, and Soibelman tried the case in Los Angeles for Segler Holdings. After a four-day trial before United States District Judge Dolly M. Gee, a jury found Miller and Cartel liable to Segler Holdings. The jury awarded Segler Holdings a total of $1 million in damages for the Defendants’ breaches of contract. After the verdict, Nick Lanza stated, “I am grateful that the jury held both Miller and Cartel accountable for their failure to fulfill the promises they made to Segler Holdings.” Stew Schmella stated, “I appreciate the jury’s attention during trial and their hard work to reach a jury verdict. Justice was served.”
Marisa Miller is an international supermodel whose credits include Victoria’s Secret, Cosmopolitan, and the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Cartel Management, a company owned by Miller's husband, Griffin Guess, manages Miller. Guess also owns Titans of Mavericks, a surfing competition.

Firms included in the 2015 “Best Law Firms” list are recognized for professional excellence with persistently impressive ratings from clients and peers. Achieving a tiered ranking signals a unique combination of quality law practice and breadth of legal expertise.

The 2015 rankings are based on the highest number of participating firms and highest number of client ballots on record. To be eligible for a ranking, a firm must have a lawyer listed in The Best Lawyers in America, which recognizes the top 4 percent of practicing attorneys in the US. Over 17,000 attorneys provided almost 600,000 law firm assessments, and almost 7,500 clients provided more than 40,000 evaluations.

The national first-tier rankings will be featured in the second edition of the “Best Law Firms” Legal Issue, which will be distributed to over 30,000 C-level executives. National and metropolitan first-tier rankings will be featured in the “Best Law Firms” General Counsel Publication, which will be distributed to more than 30,000 in-house counsel and in digital format to more than 60,000 private practice lawyers worldwide.
